FAQ's

Sound Baths & Gong Baths

What is a sound bath or gong bath?
A sound bath is a meditative experience where you are "bathed" in sound waves. I use a mixture of  instruments such as Gloria, my gong, Tibetan and Crystal singing bowls, chimes and other percussion instruments and sometimes my voice. Vibrations from these instruments are intended to relax your body, calm your mind and promote a sense of well-being. Despite the name, there is no water involved—participants lie down fully clothed and simply listen to the sounds. In a gong bath I mainly use my gong, but will use percussion instruments towards the end.

What happens during a session?
You will be invited to lie down on a yoga mat or similar comfortable surface, often with a blanket and pillow. I usually begin my sound and gong baths with a guided meditation to help you relax, followed by playing various instruments. The session ends with a gentle return to full awareness.

Do I need any experience to attend?
No experience is necessary. Sound baths are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators alike. I will explain at the beginning of each session what will happen.

What should I bring and wear?
Bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow, and anything else that will help you feel comfortable lying down for an hour. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

How long does a session last?
My sound and gong baths last for an hour.

Who should not attend a sound bath?
Sound baths are generally safe, but if you are pregnant, have a sound-sensitive condition (such as epilepsy), or have a serious mental health condition, please consult your healthcare provider before attending. A list of contraindications can be found on the booking page.

What are the benefits of a sound bath or gong bath?
Reported benefits include deep relaxation, stress reduction, improved mood, better sleep and a sense of emotional and energetic balance. Some participants also find it helps with meditation and mindfulness practices. However, some participants report experiencing revelations or emotions that can be difficult, but they will always be useful or enlightening. Sometimes, you may find that you won't switch off, that's totally normal / fine.

Where do you offer sessions and how can I book?

Holistic Voice Therapy

What is holistic voice therapy and how do you use the BAST method?
Holistic voice therapy, as I practise it, is a unique approach that uses the voice as a therapeutic tool to support your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I follow the BAST (British Academy of Sound Therapy) method, which combines sound, breath, movement and reflection to help you relax deeply, process emotions and reconnect with yourself. Sessions are always tailored to your individual needs and can address a wide range of issues, from stress and anxiety to self-expression and confidence to working through trauma or difficult life events.

What happens in a typical session?
Each session begins with a gentle conversation to explore what you’d like to work on. One of the advantages of this over counselling is that you don't have to tell me the specifics of what you want to work on if you don't want to; we work with where you feel the block in your body. Depending on your needs, we may use one or both of the following approaches:

  • Passive Voice Therapy: You are invited to lie down comfortably while I create a series of vocal tones and overtones, designed just for you. This is a deeply relaxing experience—many people describe it as a personal voice bath. You may feel warmth, see colours, experience vivid imagery, or gain personal insight as you enter a meditative or altered state of consciousness.

  • Vocal Processing Techniques (VPTs): This is a more active approach, where I guide you through specific exercises using your own breath, voice, movement and visualisation. These techniques are chosen to help you explore, express and transform whatever you are bringing to the session, whether it’s emotional, physical, or behavioural.

  • I may use a combination of both of these approaches, depending on your needs.

Do I need to be able to sing or have musical experience?
Absolutely not! No singing ability or musical experience is required. The focus is on using your voice as a tool for wellbeing, not on performance. All exercises are accessible and guided with care.

What are the benefits of holistic voice therapy?
People often report feeling calmer, less anxious and more grounded after sessions. Benefits can include improved mood, reduced stress, a greater sense of self-awareness and enhanced confidence in self-expression. Some research also suggests that vocal techniques can boost your immune system and help you access deeper states of relaxation and healing.

How is this different from traditional voice therapy?
While traditional voice therapy often focuses on correcting vocal issues or strengthening the voice for speech or singing, holistic voice therapy (especially using the BAST method) is about using the voice as a pathway to overall wellbeing. It’s a person-centred, reflective process that supports you in exploring your inner world and releasing what no longer serves you.

Where do you offer sessions and how can I book?

I offer Holistic Voice Therapy sessions in-person either at my home or yours (within any direction an hour of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire). For more information email enquiries@mindcareinspiration.com or book your space here

Coaching

What is coaching and how do you approach it?
My coaching sessions are a supportive collaborative space where you can explore your goals, challenges and dreams. I use a holistic, person-centred approach that recognises you as the expert in your own life. Together, we’ll clarify what you want to achieve—whether that’s finding your joy again, personal growth, career change, improved wellbeing, or something else—and create practical steps to help you move forward with confidence and clarity.

What happens in a typical coaching session?
Every session is tailored to you. We usually start with a check-in, discussing what’s on your mind and what you’d like to focus on that day. I’ll ask questions to help you reflect, gain new perspectives and uncover solutions you might not have considered. We might use creative tools, visualisations, or simple mindfulness techniques to support your journey. At the end of each session, you’ll leave with new insights and clear actions to take before we next meet. I will also bring my experience with sound to your sessions, working directly with your needs.

Do I need to prepare or bring anything?
You don’t need to prepare in any special way—just bring yourself and an open mind. Sometimes I’ll suggest keeping a journal or reflecting on certain questions between sessions, but there’s no pressure. This is your space and you set the pace.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your goals and how deep you’d like to go. Some people find clarity in just a few sessions, while others value ongoing support over several months. We’ll discuss what feels right for you and review your progress together as we go.

Is coaching like therapy or counselling?
Coaching is different from therapy or counselling. Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. My role is to help you unlock your potential, overcome obstacles and create the changes you want to see in your life. If I feel you’d benefit from additional support, I’ll always let you know.

How do I book a coaching session with you?
I offer coaching sessions in person and online, so you can choose what works best for you. For more information email enquiries@mindcareinspiration.com or book your space here
